Social
Workers
This
list of social workers includes persons who maintain
a private practice, or split their practices between
agencies or clinics, and private practice. Please consult
the "Questions to Ask the Professionals"
article on this Website to assist you when you first
contact a social worker. Most school districts have
social workers on their staff. If you choose to work
with a school social worker, issues of confidentiality
of shared information and possible conflicts of interest
are bound to arise--they are built into that kind of
job. Without asking your "screening questions" offensively,
be firm in getting your answers from school-employed
professionals.
Names
on this list are presented in no particular order. Their
position neither indicates endorsement or "ranking"
by OPU. As with any professional, what is most important
in your working with the person is the "chemistry."
If you feel uncomfortable when talking with this person,
or your child has a reaction when first encountering
them, follow your heart and the child's responses. Please
remember that first impressions, especially for children
with Asperger Syndrome, are often long-lasting, and
difficult to correct. Many individuals with AS do not
easily give such persons a "second chance." It is neither
your responsibility nor that of your child to "adjust"
to a professional who works so closely with you or your
child.
