Update on Activist Response on OHSU threatens to take Autistic
Child from his mother
February 17, 2005
In the aftermath on the unjust charges against Kathryn Dunn
being dismissed in a court of law. She is still fighting the
Beaverton School District advocating to get much needed
educational services and testing for her son.
On March 18, 2004, Beaverton School District removed Kristopher
Dunn from special education services based primarily on testing
performed by Dr. Darryn Sikora at OHSU. In the documents from
disclosure from Kris’s school there were some discrepancies on
testing scores that were given to Kathryn Dunn and given to
Kris’s school. On December 9, 2003, Dr. Darryn Sikora tested
Kris. She gave Kathryn the test scores on Kristopher having an
I.Q. of 70, which she stated was mildly mentally retarded. In
the school documents that test score was changed to 73. All of
his autism test scores were removed from the school documents.
The autism test score page was changed by Dr. Darryn Sikora in
front of Kathryn and a witness the day of testing without
explanation. In research we discovered that a score of 11 on
Comm & Social is one point below the cut off line for autism.
He originally scored a 13, which she changed to an 11, which she
sated was autism spectrum characteristics.
Prior to August 28, 2004, OHSU contacted Kristopher Dunn’s
school and exchanged information concerning Kris’s schooling and
parent child relationship between Kristopher and his mother,
without parental consent. OHSU used this information in their
complaint to DHS to take custody of Kris away from his mother.
Proof of this was disclosed in documents from OHSU given to
Kathryn Dunn’s attorney by DHS.
On November 11, 2004, Beaverton School District agreed to have
Kristopher tested by an Independent Psychologist who specialized
in high functioning autism/asperger’s.
On December 9, 2004, the Psychologist Kathryn had selected to do
the testing on Kris for the school called her to inform her that
the Beaverton School District had called and canceled the
testing for Kris. They state that the Psychologist who tested
Kathryn for Munchausen syndrome by proxy would also test Kris.
Note: that testing was completed on December 8, 2004, yet no
testing for autism was done on Kristopher. No notice of this
action was ever given to Kathryn Dunn form the Beaverton School
District.
To date, Beaverton School District has refused to even consider
placing Kris on a 504 plan.
On February 9, 2005, Kathryn Dunn received notice of a team
meeting from Beaverton School District to review existing
information about Kris to decide if additional testing is
needed. Meeting is to be Thursday, February 24, 2005. Note:
five of the eight people the school has scheduled to attend this
meeting were going to testify against Kathryn Dunn in court to
take custody of her son away from her.
On February 17, 2005, Kathryn Dunn Received a certified letter
requesting her presence at the above team meeting, which she had
to sign for.
On February 18, 2005 Kathryn sent a certified letter to the
Beaverton School District advising them that the meeting they
had scheduled needed to be rescheduled to a mutually agreeable
time/day. That she was unable to have an advocate at that
meeting and requested they reschedule so she had
representation. Kathryn also called and left a message with the
Beaverton School District stating this, they never returned her
call.
February 23, 2005, Kathryn picked Kris up from school early for
a dental appointment. The secretary at Kris’s school told
Kathryn, “Your taking him to a psychologist for both of you, “
when Kathryn had only told her she was picking him up for a
dental appointment.
February 24, 2005, Kathryn had a meeting with Sonya (DHS), Sonya
told Kathryn that the school had called her and told her that
Kathryn could not make the appointment with them. Kathryn’s
attorney advised her not to attend this meeting as she had given
them legal notice to reschedule and she needed an advocate
present. George tried to call the school and they would not
talk to him or return his call.
We question whether it is possible for Kristopher Dunn to get a
free and appropriate public education from the Beaverton School
District without prejudice.
One note of correction on the previous update on this case.
Kathryn Dunn has agreed to counseling for 6 months with a
Psychologist who is mutually acceptable with Kathryn and DHS.
