Fairview Housing Trust Fund
for Adults with Developmental Disabilities is in Danger
Dear Friends,
Legislators are in the
process of prioritizing programs within the Department of Human
Services. They have put the Fairview Housing Trust at the bottom
of the priority list and the Trust is at risk for being
eliminated.
Problem:
Let your legislators know why
this Trust is important to people with developmental
disabilities in Oregon. Urge Legislators not to abandon their
promise to people with developmental disabilities and their
families that the funding from the sale of Fairview Training
Center would
benefit individuals in the community.
Talking Points:
The Fairview Trust was part of a promise the State of Oregon
made to individuals with developmental disabilities when the
Fairview Training Center was closed.
The funds from the sale of the property of Fairview Training
Center were committed in statute to be placed in trust and be
used for the housing modifications and adaptive equipment for
individuals with developmental disabilities.
These funds help individuals with developmental disabilities
stay in their homes and their communities. These dollars pay for
modifications that protect health, safety, and accessibility.
They fund adaptive equipment that increases the independence of
individuals with developmental disabilities.
Examples of purchases include:
Ramps
Bathroom modifications
Door openers
Fences to keep a child safe
Monitoring systems
Specialized feeding chair
Communication devices
